NZeTA: the complete guide
New Zealand requires an electronic travel authority from every visa-waiver traveller — including anyone merely connecting through on the way somewhere else.
What the NZeTA is
An electronic authority recorded against your passport and valid for two years. It allows repeat entries of up to three months each, for tourism, visits or business.
The tourism levy (IVL)
On top of the authority fee, New Zealand charges an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy, collected with the application. It is not a separate payment later — it is part of the total, so do not be surprised when the amount is higher than the headline fee.
What it costs

Common mistakes
- Ignoring transit — A connection in Auckland still requires an NZeTA.
- Leaving it to the last minute — The window is up to 72 hours — not the day of the flight.
